Maternity Photoshoot

Getting to know that you both are pregnant triggers a whole lot of emotions in a couple. It is an overwhelming sense of joy. For nine months, you nurture and nourish the tiny being who is growing inside you. You caress it gently, talk to it, sing songs and eagerly wait for it to adorn your arms one day. It’s a miracle in itself.

A woman’s body undergoes tremendous changes in these nine months and a maternity photoshoot is the best way to capture and preserve these memories for a lifetime.

The best time to plan this shoot can be between 28 to 32 weeks of your pregnancy. This is the time when your baby bump has started showing off prominently 😊. I did my shoot when I was in my 30th week of pregnancy (I looked much more pregnant than that 😉). It was a beautiful experience for both of us. Mine was a last minute decision but, it turned out to be one of my best photoshoot till date.

I would suggest that you plan and prepare a little in advance for this so that you make the most out of it. I have listed out a few tips to make it a tad bit easier for you.

  • Hire a professional – If you can manage to do this, then nothing like it. You can be relaxed and just pose and the photographer does the rest of the job. But, do not fret if it isn’t possible. I’m sure you and your pictures will look beautiful otherwise as well.
  • Venue – Select a place where you don’t have to travel much because let’s not forget that you are in your last trimester. Making yourself uncomfortable is the last thing you want to do. Certain public places need permission for photography so get all that sorted beforehand itself to avoid last minute glitches.
  • Attire – Choose something which makes you look and feel comfortable. It’s your shoot and you can mould it the way you want it to be. When you look back at those pictures, you should only have smiles on your face.
  • Props – You can be as creative as you wish and use a lot of props like baby clothes, socks, cradles, strollers etc. for your shoot. But again, please have everything ready a day or two before the shoot.
  • Involve your partner – Your shoot will be incomplete if your partner isn’t a part of it. Trust me, you both will enjoy this experience to the core.

These memories are going to be etched in your heart for a lifetime so enjoy it to the fullest and yes, do show the pictures to your kids when they start understanding things and be ready to see the look of amazement on their faces. Riaan is just three, but he was elated to see these pictures. He couldn’t believe that he was in my ‘tummy’ (as he calls it) once. But, he loves to see them again and again and as for me; I don’t mind looking at these lovely pictures even a hundred times 😊
