My Everlasting Love for Green Tea

I have always been a chubby girl. Right from my teenage. I mostly used to have home cooked food only but, maybe the excess kilos were due to my genetics πŸ˜‰.

I come from a typical South Indian family who totally love their rice. Till date, lunch at my place is rice some lip smacking sambar, rasam or some other delectable South Indian curry. Naturally, the weighing scale was never in my favor.

In 2006, I decided to join the Aviation industry and as you guessed it right the first thing that I had to do, was to drop those extra pounds. My journey towards fitness began at that point. I enrolled in a gym and started following a structured diet. One fine day the dietitian asked me if I had tried Green Tea. To be very honest, I’m not at all a fan of tea. So, the term Green tea was totally alien to me. She advised me to start with one cup daily and then increase it to another one once I get used to it. I, very enthusiastically rushed straight to the store got a box of green tea, headed home, brewed it and took a sip of it. My world almost came crashing as I did not expect it to be so bitter. I had convinced myself that this wasn’t my cup of tea. But, at the same time I also thought of researching about it because it was bothering me that inspite of the taste there were people consuming it. There has to be something about it.

2006 wasn’t really the age where we had easy access to Google and other search engines so, I spoke to a few of my family members and friends who were fitness enthusiasts and after understanding the benefits of it, decided to give this magic potion another shot. But, by this time I had learnt that there are an array of flavors as well in green tea and I picked the honey and lemon tea bags. The taste agreed with me and this became my poison 😊.

For those of you who do not know, here are the benefits of green tea:

  • It improves your heart health.
  • Regulates blood pressure
  • Promotes weight loss (the reason why I started having it).
  • Boosts immunity
  • Improves brain health
  • Helps cure hangovers
  • Anti ageing properties
  • Stimulates hair growth

With such a huge array of benefits, everyone should begin consuming green tea. Now, the question arises as to how it is possible to have green tea when it is supposed to be brewed in hot water and consumed immediately.

What I usually do is I carry the Instacuppa vaccum insulated thermos with me whenever I travel anywhere. The Instacuppa thermos retains the temperature of my drink for almost upto 12 hours. It is a must for me when I travel. Before leaving home, I brew the green tea and pour it piping hot in the Instacuppa thermos and I’m good to go. Don’t be baffled! It just takes a few minutes for this as compared to the elaborate preparations I need to make for my toddler whole stepping out of the house πŸ˜‰. It is by far, one of the best things I have bought for myself in a long time.

Green tea is my go to drink and you can say at the least that I’m addicted to it.
